Overseas Non-permanent Residents Can Renew Their VISA Outside HK

The Immigration Department recently announced that from April 8, non-permanent residents outside Hong Kong can apply for an extension of their stay. The validity period of the new measures is tentatively scheduled to expire on December 31 this year. The Immigration Department will examine whether the measures need to be extended in view of the development of the epidemic

入境处近日宣布，4月8日起，身在香港以外地方的合资格非永久性居民可申请延长逗留期限。新措施有效期暂定于今年12月31日届满，入境处会因应疫情发展检视需否延长措施

Under the existing measures, those who apply for an extension of stay must be in Hong Kong when submitting their application and receiving the "e-visa" or old-fashioned label of the relevant extension of stay.

在现行措施下，申请延长逗留期限的人士在递交申请和领取相关延长逗留期限的“电子签证”或旧式的标签时，均须身在香港

Under the new measures, Hong Kong non-permanent residents can apply for extension of stay even if they are outside Hong Kong, including the mainland talent Importation Scheme, the talents immigration scheme, the non-local graduates' stay / return to Hong Kong Employment arrangement, the second generation of Hong Kong permanent residents of Chinese nationality Importation Scheme, the technology talents immigration scheme, the capital investors immigration scheme, students residing as dependants and studying full-time courses.

新措施下，香港非永久性居民即使处香港以外地方，亦可办理延期逗留手续，涵盖输入内地人才计划、优秀人才入境计划、非本地毕业生留港/回港就业安排、输入中国籍香港永久性居民第二代计划、科技人才入境计划、资本投资者入境计划、以受养人身份居留及修读全日制课程的学生

Eligible applicants can apply through the "electronic visa" application service of the immigration department or through their guarantor / authorized representative in Hong Kong in accordance with the current application process for extension of stay, i.e., form id92. 合资格申请人可经入境处“电子化签证”申请服务，或透过其在港的保证人/获授权代表按照现行的延长逗留期限申请流程递交申请，即ID92表格。（下载网址：https://www.immd.gov.hk/hkt/forms/forms/id92.html）

After payment, the approved applicants can download the "e-visa" for the extension of their stay, and the applicants can go through the relevant procedures and activate the "e-visa" for the extension of their stay outside Hong Kong

获批的申请人于缴费后可下载延长逗留期限的“电子签证”，而且申请人全程可在香港以外地方办理有关手续及激活延长逗留期限的“电子签证”

The "e-visa" has been implemented since December 28, 2021. In other words, the original paper visa will be changed to PDF electronic version. After successful application, you don't have to go to the Immigration Department to get it. You just need to pay online, print or save it to your mobile phone, so as to save the trouble of running errands and worry about the loss of your visa “电子签证”自2021年12月28日起已经实施，换而言之，原来的纸质版签证将改为PDF电子版，申请成功后不用去入境处领取，只需要在网上缴费并打印或存到手机，省却跑腿麻烦，还不用担心签证丢失

Again, this convenience arrangement is for extended stay, not for new applications, which is the focus!

再强调一下，这次的便利安排，是针对延期逗留的，而不是针对新申请的，这是重点！

The immigration department reminds non-permanent residents that the approval of the extension of stay does not mean or represent the recognition by the immigration department that the person meets the usual residence requirements for obtaining the right of abode in Hong Kong under the Immigration Ordinance (Cap 115). The Immigration Department will examine the application to verify the eligibility of the permanent identity card to verify whether the person concerned meets the requirement of ordinarily living in Hong Kong for seven consecutive years in order to obtain the right of abode in Hong Kong.

入境处提醒非永久性居民，获批准延长逗留期限并不意味或代表入境处承认该人士符合《入境条例》（第115章）下有关取得香港居留权的通常居住要求。入境处会在其申请核实永久性居民身份证资格时作出审核，以核实有关人士是否符合在香港通常居住连续七年的要求以取得香港居留权。
